West Nile Found & Port Welcomes Ship. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

The Washington State Department of Agriculture has reported the first equine West Nile case. Mike Louisell, with WSDA says the good news is the horse is improving.

LOUISELL: A five-year old quarter horse gelding in Kennewick is the first horse case in the state this year to contract West Nile virus. The horse was not vaccinated the disease and it had not left the owners property recently. Last year we had five horses with West Nile virus and they were in the central part of the state. Horse owners that aren't up-to-date on shots can still benefit from talking to their veterinarian and seeing if a vaccination is possible to protect their horse or to get a booster shot.

Th Port of Portland's Terminal 6 received their first container ship yesterday after that dispute between longshore workers and the terminal operator. During that shutdown which caused billions of dollars in damage for industries and agriculture in the northwest, two of the largest carries pulled out of Portland. The vessel that arrived was operated by Puyallup, Washington-based Westwood Shipping Lines. The Westwood ship was the first incoming ship that was filled with cargo since the dispute.
