Far West Agribusiness is responding to requests from the Willamette Valley and is scheduling ag chemical spill response safety classes. Jim Fitzgerald with FWAA says you should register for these classes as soon as possible.

FITZGERALD: It targets ag retailers so that their staff; their agronomists, their delivery people know that should a pesticide be spilled whether it's in a large container or just a small 2 1/2 - what do you need to do? Depending on the size and what the product might be determines who you have to bring in and notify whether that's Department of Ecology in the State of Washington or Environmental Quality in Oregon.

Oregon's Senate has voted to reject a bill that would have put a two-year hold on the hemp industry. It also allows a hemp farm in Josephine County to continue operation. Oregon's marijuana industry had strongly supported the moratorium while it attempts to grow it's own business. While a member of the cannabis family, hemp is used for a wide variety of items including clothing and food. It doesn't have the same intoxicating effects that marijuana has. The measure would have revoke all hemp permits issued this year.

That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
