Another Bee Accident & Plenty of Cherries. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

The sweet cherry season is peaking. The Independence Day holiday this weekend is always an important target date as cherries are very popular at holiday celebrations. According to Lance Honig of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, we should have plenty of cherries left but you'd better hurry.

HONIG: Warmer, dryer weather all through the winter and into the spring - just not as many cherries produced based on those conditions. The good news in the sweet cherry crop is it's early so we should see plenty of those cherries in the grocery stores fresh this year for the Fourth of July. Come end of the season - they may run out a little sooner than we sometimes see.

It was only a few days ago that we reported about a semi-truck overturning on a southern Idaho road, spilling thousands of honeybees. Now, it's happened yet again.This time it was on I-90 near Coeur d'Alene. Nearly 2-million bees were released after the truck crashed Sunday evening. The driver was fine but thousands of bees died in the wreck with the remainder swarming around the truck. 400 hives were on their way to a Montana farm for use in pollination. This is the 3rd such accident involving bee hives this year in the Pacific Northwest since a truck rolled over on I-5 near Lynwood, Washington back in April.
