Ex-Im Reauthorization & New Ag Director

Ex-Im Reauthorization & New Ag Director. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

Yesterday, Senate Democrats secured a commitment from the Majority Leader that reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank will receive a vote in June.  The vehicle will be negotiated between Senator Maria Cantwell and Senator McConnell.  The President committed that reauthorization of the credit agency will be a priority of his current trade agenda. Washington's Senator Cantwell has been a very outspoken champion of the reauthorization.

CANTWELL: It right now has deals of $18-billion dollars and more pending before it. If the bank expires June 30th, all of those trade deals which are jobs for U.S. companies disappear and go away.

Washington's Gov. Jay Inslee yesterday announced he is appointing Derek Sandison as director of the Washington State Department of Agriculture. Sandison is familiar to many in the agriculture industry through his current work as director of the Wenatchee-based Office of Columbia River in the Washington State Department of Ecology. As OCR director he oversees numerous water supply development projects and related efforts along the Columbia River Basin that are important to farmers and ranchers in the region. Sandison will begin his new cabinet-level role effective June 15. He is replacing Bud Hover who announced his resignation in March.

That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
