GMO Free & Misinformation

GMO Free & Misinformation. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

Water issues continue to swirl around as more drought condition are made known. From William Shatner's wild west coast pipeline theory to California's media claim that agriculture uses 80 percent of the water and accounts for less than two percent of California's Gross Domestic Product, but California Farm Bureau President Paul Wenger says that is not true.

WEGNER: We in ag have just done what we do so well for so long that people have taken it for granted. I've talked to some disgruntled homeowners that are told they have to cut back their watering their lawns, could you tell me one person that had to refinance their home because they were asked to cut back on their watering or take quicker showers, and nobody, of course, is in that situation.

Chipotle Mexican Grill has gone completely GMO free. Co-CEO Steve Ells said the Denver-based chain has achieved that unusual goal not only at Chipotle Mexican Grills but also at its ShopHouse Southeast Asia Kitchen locations. Chipotle is pulling corn used in their tortilla's and chips in addition to their rice and salsa. Chipotle is the first major restaurant chain to pull GMO products from its menu. The announcement is part of an industry wide move away from what customers don't want including aspartame from Diet Coke and chicken treated with antibiotics at McDonalds. Chipotle's chicken and pork still come from animals fed GMO feed.

That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
