Kitzhaber Out-Brown In & Immigration Backlash

Kitzhaber Out-Brown In & Immigration Backlash. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

Well it's official. John Kitzhaber is no longer governor of Oregon. Kate Brown, after being sworn in as Oregon's 38th governor.

AUDIO: I Kate Brown do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Oregon and I will faithfully discharge the duties of governor according to the best of my ability.

With cameras clicking in the gallery there was thunderous applause from the states lawmakers in the state House chamber. Brown is only the states second female governor. She replaces Kitzhaber who resigned last Friday for conflict-of-interest allegations against him and his fiancée, first lady Cylvia Hayes.

After a Texas judge temporarily blocked President Barack Obama's immigration plan there has been an uproar from immigration officials and general public as well since the President's plan would have granted legal status to millions of undocumented immigrants, allowing them to get driver's licenses, work permits and other government benefits. That includes thousands of agricultural workers across the Pacific Northwest. In response to the ruling the President fired back, quote: "We should not be tearing some mom away from her child when the child has been born here and that mom's been living here for the last ten years."

That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
