Washington FFA Hires New Executive Director

The Washington State FFA Association hired Abbie DeMeerleer as the new executive director. She will begin her new role in September.
DeMeerleer: “My history with FFA is long and rich. I joined as a freshman in high school and got involved in the typical career development events: creed speaking, rituals, beginning parliamentary procedure, and then I also had a equine project as well as a beef project. I was never content with just enough so I pushed for more leadership experiences and a district officer role and then ran for and was elected to a state vice president role. Then a couple of years later I ran for and was elected as a national FFA officer to represent not only Washington State but American agriculture.”
She urges high school students to participate in FFA programs if offered at their high school. She lists some of FFA’s unique benefits it provides students.
DeMeerleer: “Leadership, career development skills and business acumen that students in high school are typically not getting to the degree that they get when they are able to become a FFA member. When they are able to take those leadership, communications, career and business skills and then see them in action in all the different varieties of agriculture and agricultural industry. It is really a beautiful opportunity for our students to do so much more with their careers and their futures.”
