Super Bowl Nets Big Win For Seattle and Denver Food Banks

The Washington State Potato Commission had a friendly bet against the Colorado Potato Administrative Committee as to the results of the Super Bowl. The bet was that for every point scored in the game, 500 pounds of potatoes would be donated to a food bank in the city of the winning team by the organization of the home state to the losing team.Based on the Seahawks 43-8 victory, the Colorado Potato Administrative Committee will be sending 25,500 pounds of potatoes to a food bank in Seattle. However, as the Washington State Potato Commission Executive Director Chris Voigt shares his organization has stepped up Voigt: "We decided to match that bet and Washington State Potato Commission is going to supply an equal amount of potatoes. So half are going to a Colorado food bank in Denver and the other half to a food bank in Seattle. So it is really a win-win for both food banks."It is estimated that this will provide more than 76,500 servings of potatoes to people within both communities who rely on support from food banks.Another layer of the bet that Colorado added to the challenge was to have the Executive Director from the state with the losing team make a trip to the winning team's city to help with a potato promotion. Voigt says that WSPC is requesting ideas Voigt: "So that is kind of our call out on our Facebook page. We need some good ideas. There will be a pretty cool prize. So we are looking for some good ideas of how the Colorado growers could help us promote our potatoes in Seattle. So give us a hand."
