FSA Reminds Farmers to Vote for Representation

Farmers and ranchers who want local input on federal farm programs have had a little extra time to vote in the annual the USDA Farm Service Agency county committee elections. The ballots were mailed out to eligible voters on December 20th and are due back January 17th.

To be eligible to vote, producers must participate or cooperate in any Farm Service Agency program and be of legal voting age.

Washington Farm Service Agency Executive Director Judy Olson encourages eligible farmers to use this extended time to vote.

Olson: "We're encouraging folks when your ballot arrives in the mail to please vote and participate. This is a wonderful opportunity to have input into FSA and represent the producers of your county and area."

Olson adds that by turning in your ballot you are providing direct feedback to how federal agencies operate which is distinct to FSA.

Olson: "FSA is unique in the federal government that we have the ability for the producers to elect three to five person county committees to ensure fair and equable administration of our FSA programs."

Again, the last day for voters to submit ballots in person to local USDA FSA offices is Jan. 17, 2014. Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked no later than Jan. 17.
