This is Matt Rice with the Market Line Report for Feb. 27th. Live and Feeder Cattle were looking healthy for the first half of the week, but the 2nd half was a different story. Let's go to Greg Sanders as he shares the weekly cattle update with the USDA.

Sanders "National Slaughter Cattle Review for Thursday Feb. 23rd, 2017. On Thursday in Kansas the Northern Plains and Western Corn Belt, trading was slow on moderate demand. A few light purchases in Kansas traded from $1.24 to $1.25. In the Northern Plains a few Live Sales traded at $1.25 and in Nebraska a few dress sales at $1.96."

Starting with those Chicago markets, July wheat prices closed the week dn 5, at 461 ¾. Chicago July Corn prices were dn 1 ½, to finish the Friday at 379 even. Prices in Portland for Soft White Winter Wheat of ordinary protein for Aug. NC were dn 5 to 3, ranging from 4-72 to 4-79. Hard Red Winter Wheat with 11.5 % protein, future prices for May were dn 4 ½, ranging from 5-47 to 5-52. DNS Wheat with 14 % protein, prices for May were up ½, ranging from 6-53 ¾ to 6-83 ¾. June Live Cattle finished the day dn $1.92 ½, at 104.95. April Feeder cattle were dn $3.57 ½, at 121.70. March class III milk was dn 13 cents at 16-38.
