Grains End Day Mixed on Thursday

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the Market Line Report for January 30, 2015.

Wheat finally found some friends with buying support despite a stronger U.S. dollar. Corn and soybeans closed with slight losses seems to be the path of least resistance with any lack of fresh news. From the floor of the CME Group, Scott Shellady shares

Shellady: “A relatively quiet session, not a ton of volume in the options either. We did see a beginning of the Rogers Rollover where we are rolling the March contracts in the soybeans, corn and wheat into the May — so March/May spreading going on a lot. As far as the options trade we were fairly quiet — but what was the talk of the town is this dollar and the dollar’s strength.”

Chicago May Wheat ended Thursday up 2 and 1/4 cents at 5-12 and 1/2. May corn ended the day down 1 and 1/2 cents at 3-80.?

Portland February prices for soft white wheat of ordinary protein were steady to down 2 cents ranging between 6-38 and 6-75. White club wheat of ordinary protein prices had no price comparisons. Hard Red Winter wheat with 11.5 percent protein prices were up 8 and 1/4 cents at mostly 6-38. DNS wheat with 14 percent protein prices were up 4 and 1/4 cents at mostly 8-24 and 1/4.

April live cattle were down $1-even on Thursday at 150-50. April Feeder cattle were down $1.25 at 204-20. April class III milk was up 75 cents at 15-65.
