Wheat Futures End Week on a High Note

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the Market Line Report for August 18, 2014.
Second day of higher closes in the wheat futures. Pundits say that one of the reasons for the increase was the tensions of the Ukraine-rebel ceasefire falling apart. USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders gives an update of last week’s cattle markets in the region.1500 head. Compared to last week, feeder cattle were weak in a light test due, in part, to a lower futures markets. 800 pound steers in Washington sold for $212 current FOB and 700 pound heifers sold for $207 current FOB also.”
Chicago September Wheat ended Friday up 14 cents at 5-51 and 1/4. September corn ended the day up 3 and 3/4 cents at 3-65 and 3/4.
Portland prices for soft white wheat were up 2 and 3/4 to 6 and 1/4 cents at mostly 6-88. White club wheat prices were up 6 and 1/4 to 14 cents at mostly 7-83 and 1/2. Hard Red Winter wheat with 11.5 percent protein prices were up 11 and 3/4 cents at mostly 7-15 and 3/4. DNS wheat with 14 percent protein prices were up 6 and 1/4 cents at mostly 7-68.
October live cattle were up 40 cents on Friday at 147-75. September Feeder cattle were up $2.05 at 215-10. September class III milk was down 6 cents at 22-64.
