Wheat Up Again

Wheat Up Again

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the Market Line Report for April 25, 2014.

Escalated tensions in Ukraine on Thursday contributed to price increases in wheat markets. From the floor of the CME Group, Larry Shover shares his observations of Thursday’s markets.

Shover: “Fairly quiet Thursday here at the CME Group when we look at the ag markets. We start with corn. Corn closed today down 2 cents on the day. It did have some fits and starts on various puts and takes — but trader apathy ruled the day. The one mover we saw today was wheat. Wheat up about 12 on the day largely climbed due to the ongoing escalated tension with Russia and Ukraine. Weather in the Great Plains states aren’t helping much either — but basically wheat closed up 12 cents on Thursday’s grain trade.”

Chicago May Wheat ended Thursday up 12 and 1/2 cents at 6-89. May corn ended the day down 2 and 1/4 cents at 5-01 and 1/4.

Portland prices for soft white wheat were up 10 to 12 and 1/2 cents at mostly 7-69 and 1/4. White club wheat prices were up 10 to 22 and 1/2 cents at mostly 8-26 and 3/4. Hard Red Winter wheat with 11.5 percent protein prices were up 13 and 3/4 cents at mostly 8-69 and 1/2. DNS wheat with 14 percent protein prices were up 12 cents at mostly 8-81 and 1/4.

June live cattle were up 75 cents on Thursday at 135-85. May Feeder cattle were up 97 and half cents at 179-60. May class III milk was up 45 cents at 22-86.
