Direct Action Everywhere

The Animal Agriculture Alliance made me aware of a shocking video produced by an animal rights group named Direct Action Everywhere. Members of the group entered a chicken housing facility without permission in the middle of the night and here is part of a sound track. “Direct Action Everywhere’s Open Rescue network Costco’s Certified Humane cage free egg farm and here is what we found. Filth, disease and starving birds tearing one another to pieces. In the unnatural conditions, thousands of these little birds will be eaten alive. Here's another instance of them pecking. It appears her head has been torn off.”

As a strong advocate for animal agriculture, I have to confess that the video is nothing short of grueling with the caveat that we know that people from radical groups may heavily edit their presentations in order to support their agenda. Direct Action Everywhere’s founder, Wayne Hsiung, stated in a media interview that the group did not seek permission to enter the farm, but felt they had the right to enter the property because they suspected animal cruelty.

Tomorrow, a reaction from Kay Johnson Smith, President of the Animal Agriculture Alliance.
