Use of drones, or unmanned aerial vehicles, is increasing in agriculture as farmers find new ways to use the technology. But being relatively new, farmers have many questions regarding UAV’s. Jason Schmidt, a farmer with FlyingAg.com helps provide answers. “We are getting a lot of questions from farmers on what do we really want? What is the best avenue here? What do we have to spend? We found that you can do basically everything you need to do for a couple of thousand dollars. We are trying to help farmers decide what to use, who to trust and where to go. We are offering imagery with film deploy and we are just trying to pick a package and make it simple for the farmer. There are a lot of uses that I have seen with my operation and it just makes you more educated about what you have going out there. You can scout so many more acres quickly and see what potential problems you have whether it is drainage or lack of nitrogen or different hybrid issues, wind damage. Guys are using them for livestock to count their cattle and there is some new infrared technology coming out where you can see the temperature of the animal. I think it provides a lot of value.
