Landing a prestigious internship in the current job market can be difficult, and for those students that were able to do so, how they finalize their experience is just as important as their first impression. It is essential for students to exit their internships on a high note and maintain a good relationship with their employer.

I talked with AgCareers Marketing Dir., Erika Osmundson and she offered some very helpful information: “Making the internship work for you after you’ve departed, if it was a good experience, is something that people do not take advantage of. How do you get feedback as to whether or not you did a good job? Really staying connected with your manager that UF done your internship with is key to helping make a lasting impression in your internship work after you have departed. Talking with others outside of your manager as well, making a lasting impression with them, it's kind of that whole concept of networking. Then, being bold enough to say, what are the future opportunities and what is the appropriate way to go about exploring those? The intern needs to realize that it may not be immediate and they may have to think about it a little, they may not know what their opportunities are until later in the year but maintaining that connection through the year and continuing to check-in on a regular basis but not too often just to see if they are interested in interning again or looking at a full-time career, they should use that network and relationships they've built.
