GMO…Genetically Modified Organisms. Just say GMO in a crowd and the discussion gets interesting. More and more of the worlds food chain is GMO enhanced. Some say that is bad, others say it’s not. Forecasters of the future say it's a needed part of the world’s food chain as we grow more and more food to feed more and more people on fewer acres of cultivated ground. Anti-GMO activists say it may be dangerous to human health. Most scientists say it is not. Even British author and environmental activist Mark Lynas has flip-flopped his opinion on GMO’s. Lynas brought his message to Boise as a guest of Idaho Food Producers. “ Here I am apologizing for what I did in those years earlier. I want to apologize for spending several years ripping on GMO crops. I am also sorry that I helped start the anti-GMO movement back in the 90s and I assisted in demonizing an important technological option which can and should be used to benefit the environment. Lynas went on to entertain and educate a robust crowd about his turnaround both philosophically and scientifically. The take away? A lot of minds were changed.
