Reauthorization of Key Export Tool

Reauthorization of Key Export Tool. I'm Greg Martin with today's Line On Agriculture.

On Wednesday, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell from Washington along with Senators Schumer and Heitkamp calling for Congressional action to save Export-Import Bank before it expires. The Export-Import Bank, the nation's official export credit agency and is a key export tool that helps Southwest Washington companies sell products overseas and create jobs.

CANTWELL: 95% of the worlds customers live outside the United States borders and the global middle class is going to double by 2030. That creates a huge opportunity for American businesses whether their manufacturers or small businesses and as chair of the Small Business Committee I want to make sure all these small businesses and manufacturers have the tools they need to capitalize on opportunities around the world.

Cantwell recently toured a heavy machinery manufacturer in Vancouver, Washington and reiterated the importance of seeing the Export-Import Bank reauthorized.

CANTWELL: Last week we heard from from some members of the House, who do not support this legislation and we want to make sure they understand how important it is that we get this reauthorized as soon as possible. 3,400 small businesses have used the Export-Import services in the last year. 9 out of 10 of the transactions completed by the Ex-Im Bank last year were small businesses.

With one in three jobs supported by trade – Washington state would be the hardest hit state in the nation if the bank is not reauthorized.
