Vilsack on Biofuel

I don't know exactly where I heard this, but I am sure it was on the radio. What I recall was a report saying that Pres. Obama was relaxing his interest in ethanol production. That would certainly make sense given the oil glut that we have here in America but rather than speculate, I directly asked his Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack who was kind enough to take a call from me. Here’s what he had to say. “What you have heard is a report on the renewable fuel standard which the EPA is involved in. They have issued an opportunity for the next two years and at the same time they announced increased volumes under the renewable fuel standard, we also announced $100 million incentive program to expand access to higher blends of ethanol through a blender pump program that we are sponsoring at the USDA so there is quite a bit of activity supporting biofuels. It is in addition to the RFS and in addition to the hundred million dollars there is also the work that we are doing in the state of Washington. We are investing $80 million in a supply chain to produce aviation fuel that Alaska airlines just announced.”
