The Idaho Wheat Commission will be presenting a web-based grower education webinar on Tuesday, January 13 at 8:00 AM (MST)  The webinar will be approximately one hour.  Participation is free!  Log onto the website at http://connect.cals.uidaho.edu/wheat (requires Adobe Flash Player which is installed on most computers) and enter your name as a participant.

 

Guest Speaker: Dr. Samantha Ramsay.  Identification of Preferences for Hard White Wheat, Hard Red Wheat Bread, and Non-Whole Grain Products in Young Children and Their Parents

 

Kathy Wilson, director of research collaboration at the Idaho wheat commission tells us about the speaker. “Dr. Samantha Ramsay is an Assistant Professor in the School of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Idaho and she is the Director of the Coordinated Program in Dietetics.  She teaches courses and conducts research in child feeding and child nutrition. She is passionate about optimizing the well-being and health of all children.”

 

The presentation will provide a brief review of the current project that aims to examine children’s preferences of hard white wheat versus hard red wheat flour in bread products.  An explanation of the study activities include data collection and preliminary results will be provided.  Information will be given on the continued work for the spring, to include group snack testing, snack observation, and post taste preference data collection.  Ideas for future research in children’s taste preference with wheat products will be presented.
