Dairy Margin Protection Program. I'm Greg Martin with today's Line On Agriculture.

Good news for dairy producers. Yesterday morning, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that starting Sept. 2, 2014, farmers can enroll in the new Dairy Margin Protection Program.

VILSACK: Producers will have from September 2nd to November 28th to sign up for 2014 and 2015. We will be providing assistance and help to producers to understand whether or not this program is in their best interest with a web-based tool that will go online. It's cloud-based so most smartphones, tablets, computers and the like will be able to provide access to this web-based tool. This web-based too will give producers the ability to look at their operation in the context of these protection programs and make sure that it makes sense for them to get involved.

Vilsack says they will be working with local Farm Service Agency offices.

VILSACK: To conduct state-by-state outreach programs which will be individualized to each state as dairy in each state is slightly different. FSA employees at the county offices have also begun being trained on the use of the web-based tool. This program will provide catastrophic coverage. The differential between the all milk price and general feed costs that drops below $4 for hundred weight for two consecutive months
