If you like the whole wild West filled with wild Mustangs story of our country, you ain’t going to believe this one.

H. Alan Day, who’s sister is former US Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, wrote a book entitled The Horse Lover -- A Cowboy’s Quest to Save Wild Mustangs. I get a press release from Lynn Wiese who is a Co-author, and she told me a riveting story. “Alan Day and I wrote it, but it is his story, he was along time Arizona cattle rancher and also owned a ranch in Nebraska and he ended up buying a ranch in the sand hills of South Dakota, a ranch he didn’t need, but he loved it. What it ended up being used for was a government sponsored wild horse sanctuary, the first one in the country. He actually had to lobby Congress to get it approved. He ended up getting 1500 wild Mustangs from the Bureau of Land Management and he had them for four years. During those four years a government shifted their policies around, he had all of these adventures with the horses, he trained the entire herd, he had a real maverick way of training horses, he actually learned how to train cattle first and used the same method on the horses so he was able to get 1500 wild horses to follow a man on horseback through pastures, through gates. They traveled up to 6 miles when they went to summer grazing, so that is what the book is about.
