A pretty important issue to potato growers in the potato state is the status of trade relations with Mexico. Retaliatory tariffs and ongoing trade tensions are recounted by Kam Quarles (Quarrels), Vice President of Public Policy, National Potato Council. He says strengthening relations between us and Mexico depend on many things including the ratification of the US, Mexico and Canada agreement and this separate retaliatory tariff issue. “we will see how the ratification of this new agreement goes, and also some of these other issues we have going with Mexico. Fresh market access is hanging out there, we have to get some resolution on these retaliatory tariffs. fresh potatoes can only go into a small border zone area, twenty six kilometers from the US/Mexico border. This makes no scientific sense and no sense in the trade world.
