The National Milk Producers Federation says dairy farmers need a major fix of current immigration laws, given the importance of foreign workers to agriculture. With immigration policy a hot topic in Washington, D.C., the dairy industry is hopeful meaningful reforms will be achieved. NMPF Spokesperson Chris Galen says immigration reform is crucial to the U.S. dairy system, because dairy farmers need a stable workforce. Congress is currently negotiating on DACA, as part of the overall budget. However, Galen says, the dairy industry needs Congress to focus beyond DACA.
