Pink Lady Cider

Pink Lady Cider

Pink Lady Cider. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

Pink Lady® apples are known for their sweet crunch and now you can enjoy a glass of Pink Lady®. Alan Taylor with Pink Lady® America talks about the new Pink Lady® Cider.

TAYLOR: At Pink Lady® America our primary focus for a long time has been on the fresh market and while Pink Lady® does very well there because it's grower friendly in that it sends a high percentage of the fruit to the fresh market where the bigger ones is, some does end up going to the processing market. Places like juice and cider and slices and some other things and we've just got some good news for those Pink Lady® growers and their returns that the Hood River Juice Company is adding Pink Lady® to its Ryan's Fresh Juice Line.

Pink Lady® Cider is just now becoming available in a number of grocery outlets in the northwest.

TAYLOR: I've just tasted some yesterday. Of course I may be prejudiced but I think it's very good and it will be joining Opal, Fuji Pom and Honeycrisp in the Ryan's product line. It is good that the fruit goes in this direction for more than one reason. The grower ends up making money out of the fruit that doesn't go to the fresh market but it also helps to extend the trademark.

Don't look in the juice section for the new Pink Lady® Cider.

TAYLOR: When it comes to Ryan's, they're able to display their juice in the produce department. It kind of rings a bell for people to look at the fresh apple while they're buying the Pink Lady® Cider.
