Agricultural Technology Day

Agricultural Technology Day

Agricultural Technology Day. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

Agriculture and technology go hand-in-hand and that relationship will be showcased during the free Agricultural Technology Day open house. Lav Khot, Assistant Professor at WSU talks about why they are opening their doors.

KHOT: We got a new building so we want to have an open house and we're combining that with what is called Agricultural Technology Day so this year we want to have a technology day that would display, demo and present some of the technologies during the open house.

The goal of the event is to educate growers, agricultural industry professionals, crop consultants and researchers about the cutting edge agricultural technologies being researched by the CPAAS affiliate team.

KHOT: We work more on ag technology than any other place in Washington State. For example we need to have technologies to harvest the fruit , cherry or apple. We need some technologies for doing remote sensing to understand the crop.

Khot talks about another type of technology that will be featured during the open house.

KHOT: There is a team in our group that is working on doing mechanical pollination so that if we know honeybees, the pollination is a challenge in tree fruit.

The open house is Thursday, Sept. 17 from noon to 3:30 at WSU's new Center for Precision and Automated Agricultural Systems facility in Prosser.

That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
