Fruit Notes

Fruit Notes. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

I often have way too many stories to share or sometimes just little short news bites that don't get aired so here are several abbreviated news items. The Washington State Tree Fruit Research and Extension Center is looking for a farm manager. Duties would include management of the research orchards; coordinate, train and supervise activities; oversee and manage budgets and interact with the tree fruit industry. The job closes on Monday.

The Washington Apple Education Foundation Farmworker Education Committee selected five recipients this summer to receive grants for their activities fostering and promoting scholastic success for farmworkers and their families.   In total $16,000 was awarded earlier this month to community and school programs through the WAEF Farmworker/Ag Worker Education program.

Teams are filling up for the Washington State Tree Fruit Association's 22nd Annual Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament. All proceeds from this tournament support scholarships that are awarded to students in honor of past tree fruit industry leaders. The tournament entry fee and BBQ dinner is $600 for a Team of Four which covers golf cart rentals, greens fees for the 18-hole scramble format tournament, a commemorative tournament hat and a BBQ dinner.

If you have a news item relating to the tree fruit industry beside and email me, gmartin@aginfo.net.

That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
