Under One Banner. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Pink Lady America is growing.

TAYLOR: We’re putting some other varieties under the Pink Lady® trademark. Barnsby, Maslin, Rosy Glow, Ruby Pink and Lady-In-Red are going to be under the umbrella of the Pink Lady® trademark. So that means that they’ll just be one name that the consumers see when these other varieties come online.

That’s Alan Taylor with Pink Lady America who says they will be separate varieties under the same name.

TAYLOR: The really neat thing about this is the trademark has quality assurance that goes with it, a brand promise. It doesn’t really mean that there’s going to be any change in the quality. Actually there’s going to be some things that come along with these new apples that make it a better choice for the consumer in a number of ways.

Taylor says while this is a new director for Pink Lady its nothing new for the apple industry.

TAYLOR: When you look at the apple industry and other produce industries this is nothing new. The apples that you see out there today, let’s say Gala or Red Delicious or any of those are not the same apples that came out decades ago. They have been brought under the Gala name or the Red Delicious name but they are apples that are improved varieties and they’re also non-GMO varieties which is what we’re talking about as well.
