State Looks At Pesticide Licensees

State Looks At Pesticide Licensees. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

The Washington State Senate has again taken a look at the Substitute House Bill 1527 Pesticides Licensees which would require the Washington state department of agriculture to approve the comparable recertification standards of private entities for the purposes of waiving the recertification requirements under the Washington pesticide control act. The bill has been placed on Third Reading which means it will be up for approval. Senator Judy Warnick discusses the bill on the floor of the Senate.

WARNICK: This bill just is a streamlined bill for those that need pesticide recertification. It helps provide help to the Department of Agriculture and maintains the high standards that the Department has already put into practice but allows private entities to also certify for those who need that type of certification for handling and use of pesticides.

All individuals holding a WSDA pesticide or Structural Pest Inspector license must complete recertification requirements every five years in order to maintain their license. This may be accomplished by attending WSDA approved recertification courses or by retesting. The type of license you hold determines the extent of your recertification requirement.
