More On Value Added Products. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

Any time you can get more out of a product it's what the industry calls "value added." In the case of something like an apple it would include things like juice and things like packaged apple slices. Alan Taylor with Pink Lady America says they are starting to see more value added products for the Pink Lady® apple.

TAYLOR: Now all of a sudden it looks like the word has gotten out and people are calling us about using Pink Lady® in value added products. When it comes to value added, the Pink Lady® juice was the first one that was developed and that's now I think going to be in the fifth year at Haggen Stores, in 20 of their stores and then recently back in the Midwest the Everfresh® people came out with the Pink Lady® juice that they're doing which is an excellent product

Taylor says there is a new juice product coming out after the first of the year that looks very exciting as well.

TAYLOR: But the slice area is the one that seems to gather the most excitement and Pink Lady® had the first branded product done by Country Fresh out of the southeastern United States two-years ago and that's been at a lot of large retailers and it looks like there's going to be some more people lined up for the sliced area as well. Juice and slices are two areas Pink Lady® really shines in.

Pink Lady® apple production has doubled in the last several years and looking forward to seeing not only more fresh Pink Lady® apples but what other new value added products the market can come up with.
