More On Pink Lady Apples. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

This is going to be a big season for apples. Even some smaller varieties are really beginning to turn a corner like the Pink Lady. Pink Lady's Alan Taylor.

TAYLOR: The Pink Lady apple is really interesting because - well until recently it harvested the latest of all. But now we have a new sport of Pink Lady out there that comes off three weeks earlier so our season has been quite different but the dynamics are definitely changing.

There is always the game of making sure you sell off all of last years apples before the new ones come off the trees.

TAYLOR: You do sell out about this time of year. We're getting down to less than 100-thousand boxes for sure but we do have the imports that come in from other countries in the southern hemisphere which we like to see extend the season until the new sport of Pink Lady comes on. We don't want to lose that shelf space. That's something very important that Pink Lady is starting to see the advantage of because we are pretty much now a year round apple.

Taylor talks about the export market for the Pink Lady.

TAYLOR: The export market has not been as vibrant as it has in the past but the impact on the export markets going to be what's happening in the domestic market which has been - I guess awesome. It's been very, very good volume wise and price wise. So I think often times you're going to think why should I export when I can stick in the domestic market and not have the risk of going across the pond when I can sell the products here at a good price.
