Summer Selfie
Summer Selfie. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
The term "selfie" has permeated our society in the last few years. Now USApple Association is asking you to snap a selfie with an apple and you could win some neat prizes. Wendy Brannen, USApple's Director of Consumer Health and Public Relations explains.
BRANNEN: We decided that we would have a little fun with it. So this year at USApple we are trying to capitalize on that popularity of selfies and do a summer selfie contest where consumers actually submit a photo of themselves with an apple, an apple dish or some sort of apple background.
She says that they have already seen quite a few pictures sent to their Facebook account.
BRANNEN: They're really fun to see and very creative so we think it's going to be a fun, good and tasty summer.
So the details are that you take a snap and sent it to their Facebook page for a chance to win some prizes from their contest partners; Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken, Tajín International, Brooks Tropicals and Dizzy Pig Barbecue Company.
BRANNEN: The reason that we wanted to play on the selfie popularity was to get apples back in the front of peoples mind and get them thinking about apples this summer because apples really are perfect for summer. They're so portable. They're easy to take anywhere. You can throw them in your gym bag, you can throw them in your lunch bag , you can take them on picnics. You can buy them sliced and they're great for cooking
