Growing Soy Demand

U.S. farmers went to Singapore recently to build and expand U.S. export markets for agricultural products.

Farmer-leaders of the United Soybean Board, U.S. Soybean Export Council and the U.S. Grains Council hosted the 2019 South East Asia U.S. Agriculture Cooperators Conference.

USB Director and farmer Jacob Parker says the event offered farmers a chance to promote their product.

"It's very important that we serve as the face of the U.S. farmer. And everyone knows that this has been quite a difficult and challenge year, but our commitment to producing sustainable and reliable soy has never wavered. American farmers are all working hard on our fields to make sure we can continue to deliver a high-quality product to our customers."

Parker says making connections with buyers of U.S. agricultural products is key to developing markets.

"My first trade mission with USB was nine years ago. And my thoughts at that time was, boy this is probably a waste of my time going on one of these missions. But I soon realized after meeting a few customers of how important it is, that they want to actually see the face of an American farmer. They want to see the person who actually produces the soybean."

He and others believe Southeast Asia is a growing market with opportunity for U.S. soy.
