Hemp production could be the new gold rush for farmers. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell recently introduced a bill that would legalize hemp production in America.

Hemp is a crop that already has a foothold in states like Colorado and Kentucky but farmers in other states are ready to jump in, if legalized.

Erica McBride, President and CEO of the National Hemp Association says more and more states are passing laws making hemp production possible and it's time for the federal government to do the same thing.

The Farm Bill of 2014 legalized industrial hemp at the federal level. As a result, every state has the right to set up industrial hemp pilot programs through universities and/or the state's department of agriculture. Thus far, only 30 states have taken advantage of the right that was granted them in the Farm Bill. Here, we discuss a little bit about each of the states that currently have industrial hemp legislation.

In Oregon, the number of hemp licenses increased from 12 in 2015 to 353 as of last week, and the state now ranks No 2 nationally in licensed acreage... One problem, Under state law, none of it can leave Oregon.

Colorado is No 1 in hemp production.
