Promising Future For Ag Careers

Promising Future For Ag Careers

With yesterday being designated National Ag Day and this week as National Ag Week, we're highlighting the opportunity for young people considering a career in agriculture.

Central Washington's U.S. Congressman Dan Newhouse says as a farmer he is proud to provide food not only for people in this country but from around the world. He says the future is bright when it comes to careers in agriculture.

Newhouse: "I always encourage young people to look at the opportunities — the different kinds of things that they can engage in — because there are many. There are so many different things that I think will excite young people to get involved in agriculture. It's got a tremendous future. We've got a lot of challenges moving into the future but one thing that remains is that people have to eat. We have a growing world population and an increasing demand for better diets around the world which will necessitate an agriculture industry that increases production substantially in a very short amount of time. So to be a part of answering some of those challenges, I think could be a very exciting career for young people today."
