Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.

Sanders: “We had 6300 tons of hay trade.There were no trends due to the holidays the last two weeks and market not reported. Alfalfa on the mid squares premium quality sold for $12 to $125. On the small squares of alfalfa supreme quality tarped sold for $220 per ton. Alfalfa-orchard grass mix on the small squares premium quality for the retail/stable market sold at $230 per ton.”

In Idaho there were trends to compare to due to the holidays over the last several weeks with the market not being reported.Trade remains slow with very light demand. Mid squares of alfalfa rated supreme tarped sold between $120 and $125 per ton and mid-squares of alfalfa rated fair to good for export sold for $100 per ton. Mid-Squares of Timothy grass rated premium sold for $200 per ton for the retail/stable market.

In Oregon prices trended generally steady in a limited test compared to late December prices. Most demand is with the retail/stable hay. In Central Oregon large squares of fair alfalfa with rain damage sold for $90 per ton. Small squares of premium alfalfa for the retail/stable market sold for $200 per ton. In Lake County large squares of alfalfa rated premium for export sold for $150 per ton. Small squares of premium alfalfa sold for $185 per ton. In Eastern Oregon large squares of alfalfa rated fair sold for $110 per ton. In Harney County small squares of alfalfa rated good sold for $175 per ton.
