FSA Extends Deadline to Vote in County Committee Elections

The USDA Farm Service Agency has extended their deadline to vote in county committee elections. The original deadline was yesterday — however as FSA Washington State Executive Director Judy Olson explains — the deadline has been extended.

Olson: "The deadline has been extended until to December 13th. So farmers and ranchers who are getting their ballots in the mail, we are urge them to make their ballot — to make a selection for who will represent them and to either deliver it or drop it off in the mail by December 13th."

Olson continues with why it is important for farmers and ranchers to participate in their local election.

Olson: "This is one of the most important things that farmers and ranchers can do. Is to help select their representative on their county committee. The County Committee members are again locally elected and they use their knowledge and judgement to help FSA make really important decisions on our commodity support programs, our conservation program, our insurance and disaster and emergency programs. In addition it is the only place that — I think in the whole U.S. government — where someone who has a compliant or deemed ineligible or whatever reason is denied benefits can actually appeal to their peers for reconsideration."
