Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.

Sanders: "We had 4100 tons of hay trade. Compared to last Friday all grades of export and domestic alfalfa steady in a light test. Trade slow with light to moderate demand. Rain showers across the trade area is slowing movement. Alfalfa mid square bales good to premium export quality sold for $125 to $140 and domestic quality that was tarped sold from $125 to $135. Timothy grass fair to good mid-square bales for export sold for $145 per ton and wheat straw mid square bales on the good quality sold for $40 per ton."

In Idaho compared the previous week supreme alfalfa was steady in a light test and other grades of alfalfa were steady. Trade slow to moderate with good demand for higher testing supplies. Mid squares of alfalfa rated supreme sold between $120 and $140 per ton and mid-squares rated utility to fair for export sold for $80 per ton.

In Oregon, prices trended generally steady compared to the previous week. Most demand lays with the retail/stable hay. In Central Oregon small squares of orchard grass rated good to premium for the retail/stable market sold for $220 per ton. In Lake County large squares of alfalfa rated supreme for export sold for $170 per ton. In Klamath Basin large squares of alfalfa rated good sold for $175 per ton. There were no new sales confirmed in Eastern Oregon nor in Harney County.
