Across the rest of the country winter wheat harvest is progressing USDA Meteorologist Mark Brusberg shares a national update on winter wheat progress

Brusberg: "Wheat harvesting advanced 20 points this week to 45 percent complete, well ahead of last year's pace of 33 percent and is ahead of the five-year average of 41 percent."

Nationally spring wheat crop is developing ahead of schedule at 56 percent headed. He continues

Brusberg: "So that's a big jump from last week's 28 percent and it is well ahead of last year which was 42 percent and the five-year average was 27 percent so it is about a week ahead of average."

In Idaho 95 percent of the winter wheat has headed, a little behind last year's 99 percent and the five year average of 80 percent. Spring wheat was ahead at 63 percent of the crop headed compared to last year's 59 percent ad a five-year average of 39 percent.

In Washington, winter wheat harvest has recently begun with 1 percent harvested. Spring wheat reports 84 percent of crop being headed, compared to last year's 76 percent and the five-year average of 59 percent.

In Oregon, many winter wheat producers have their combines in the field ready to begin harvest. Spring wheat is reported at 99 percent headed compared to last year's 85 percent.

In Colorado, 2 percent of the winter wheat crop has been harvested, compared to the five year average of 15 percent harvested. Spring wheat crop is 33 percent headed compared to last year's 52 percent and the five year average of 49 percent.
