#FeedABee Program

#FeedABee Program

Last week was designated National Pollinator Week to bring awareness to the importance of pollinators. North American Bayer Bee Care Program manager Dr. Becky Langer shares the news of a new partnership

Langer: "Our #FeedABee program announced last week, that we have joined a premier partnership with The Wildlife Society and what this partnership is going to do is drive social awareness through our "Tweet a ??, #FeedABee program which creates virtual seed every time anyone tweets #FeedABee with the bee emoji. It creates virtual seed which we will translate to real seeds which we will plant in the fall."

The groups will work together toward the goal of planting 25 million pollinator-attractant wildflower seeds, increasing forage and nutrition options for hungry bees. Langer continues with some ideas for ag producers to build additional pollinator forage and habitat.

Langer: "They can do things like buffer strips. Plots of land that maybe they are not using in their traditional operation can be converted to cover crops or even simply wildflowers to feed the bees. They can also do more innovative things — like fence row project. This is where you do a drought-resistance blooming shrub along the fence line that doesn't need irrigation and very low maintenance. Then tying in the importance of forage and habitat, it is always critical that our growers to be reading and following all of the directions for any products they are using in their operation."
