Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “We had a little over 19,000 tons of hay trade. Compared to last Friday, all grades of export and domestic grades alfalfa were steady. Trade was active for new crop non-rained on export alfalfa. Demand good on export quality and light for dairy hay. Dairy hay was slow this week. Rain showers over the trade area has damaged new crop supplies. Alfalfa premium export hay sold form $150 to $160 in the mid-size bales. Good and premium mid-size bales sold for $145 to $155 per ton for export. Good quality alfalfa sold for $110 to $140 for the export market. Small square alfalfa for the export market premium sold for $160 per ton.
In Idaho compared to the previous week all grades of Alfalfa steady in a light test. New crop sales reported last week had high moisture problems as rain showers dominated the trade area. Trade was slow with light to moderate demand. Mid-square bales of alfalfa rated supreme with excessive moisture sold for $125 per ton.
In Oregon, prices trended generally steady compared to the previous week in a very limited test. In Lake County alfalfa large squares rated supreme sold for $225 per ton. In Central Oregon, alfalfa large squares rated good to premium sold for $200 per ton. In Eastern Oregon, Harney County and Klamath Basin all had no new sales confirmed.
