Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week
Sanders: “We had a little over 6,700 tons of hay trade. Compared to last Friday all grades of domestic and export alfalfa were weak in a light test. Premium second cutting Timothy for export was weak to $20 lower in a light test. Trade remains slow and buyers remains cautious. Some new crop was reported being put in to bale this week in the southern Basin. Sources expect new crop trading to begin next week. Demand remains light to moderate. Retail and feedstore hay was weak.
In Idaho compared to the previous week all grades of Alfalfa steady to weak in a light test.Trade was slow with light demand. Supplies remain heavy. Mid-square bales of alfalfa rated supreme tarped sold between $115 and $125 per ton. Mid-squares of good alfalfa sold between $90 and $100 per ton.
In Oregon, prices trended generally steady in a very limited test. In Klamath Basin, small squares of premium alfalfa for the retail/stable market sold for $240 per ton. In Lake County Alfalfa small squares rated premium for the retail/stable market sold for $200 per ton. In Eastern Oregon small squares of alfalfa/orchard grass mix rated premium sold for $165. Harney County had no new sales confirmed.
