Weekly Regional Hay Market Update

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.

Sanders: "We had a little over 7,400 tons of hay trade compared to last Friday. Supreme to premium dairy alfalfa was $5 to $10 lower. Export alfalfa was steady. First cutting Timothy for export was steady. Also retail hay was steady. Supreme alfalfa mid-square bales sold for $175 to $195. Timothy grass for export good and premium sold for $155. And wheat straw delivered on good quality sold for $80 per ton."

In Idaho compared to previous week, supreme, premium and good alfalfa was steady to weak. Mid-square bales of supreme alfalfa sold between $170 and $189 a ton. Alfalfa/grass mix mid-square of fair quality sold for $75 per ton.

In Oregon, prices trended generally steady in comparison to the previous week. Export sales continue to be slow. In Central Oregon, small square bales of orchard grass rated premium were sold between $240 and $280 per ton for the retail and stable market. In Eastern Oregon alfalfa large squares rated good sold for $150 per ton. In Klamath Basin organic premium large square alfalfa bales sold for $310 per ton. In Harney County, large square bales of alfalfa rated supreme sold for $210.
