American Agri-Women's Drive Across America

To celebrate their 40th year of existence the American Agri-Women took a cross-country road trip. The Drive Across America is a five-month educational advocacy tour. I caught up with American Agri-Women President Sue McCrum after the tour had recently hit the 9,000 mile mark near the California-Oregon border.
McCrum: “We are reaching out to our well over more than 40,000 members within 56 affiliates within the United States. And along the way and talking to consumers and educating them about what we do and where their food comes from. We are excited about this. The only states we haven’t hit across the North is South Dakota and Washington.”
McCrum says it has been wonderful to get to visit members and their farms and ranches. In addition to visiting members, she says the interaction with consumers has been very valuable as well.|
McCrum: “Consumers are very interested in where their food is coming from and where their fiber is being produced. I feel like our women in our organization are very credible — we are your neighbors, we work together, our kids go to school together, and so when we tell the story how that food was grown it is a believable story. There is nothing that we don’t grow on our farms and ranches that we wouldn’t serve our own families and I think that is one of the best stories we can tell.”
