Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “We had a little over 10,230 tons trade compared to last Friday. Good export alfalfa was steady in a light test. Large squares bales — had 2,600 tons of alfalfa trade. Good alfalfa sold for $160 to $180 FOB. Export alfalfa $165 to $175 FOB. Oat hay sold at $120 FOB and wheat straw sold at $60 to $65 FOB.”
In Idaho compared to previous week, premium Alfalfa was steady. Trade was active last week. Demand was good for organic hay and light on commodity supplies. Alfalfa large square organic rated premium to supreme sold for $260 per ton. Wheat straw large squares rated good to fair sold for $50 per ton.
In Oregon, compared to previous week, prices trended generally steady compared to the same quality the previous week. Trade activity increased slightly this week however many producers are still busy in the field with the second cutting. Many producers have decided to hold on to their hay for now. In Central Oregon small square alfalfa bales rated premium sold for $220 per ton for retail/stable. In Eastern Oregon supreme large square bales of alfalfa sold for $210 per ton. Harney County reported premium large square alfalfa sold for $250 per ton. In Klamath Basin premium large square alfalfa sold for $200 per ton.
