Oregon's Barry Bushue Running For American Farm Bureau President

Oregon Farm Bureau President and vice President of the American Farm Bureau Barry Bushue is running for position of American Farm Bureau President. Bob Stallman, who has served as the American Farm Bureau president for the past 16 years, has decided to not seek reelection at the January annual meeting.
Bushue and his wife raise a variety of vegetables, berries, flowers, and pumpkins at the nearly century-old farm near Portland. They sell directly to the public and host events for the local community. He shares why his background would help him be a good president for the national organization.
Bushue: “Oregon is a microcosm of all the issues. It is a very diverse commodity state. Not unlike the audience you are reaching here. We’ve very diverse and we have a lot of issues. It seems that a lot of the the main issues that agriculture is facing right now, propagate in the West. That is the experience I have of dealing with the issues and in a diverse and not necessarily always a friendly legislature. The Western issues: public lands grazing, water quality and water quantity, wildlife depredation, and trade. Obviously as a Pacific Rim state, trade in the West Coast is extremely important, Farm Bill issues— those are all issues that I’m comfortable and familiar with. I hope that the Western region folks will recognize that and recognize that I have the ability to represent them.”
