Pasture and Rangeland Conditions

Pasture and Rangeland Conditions

The nation’s pasture and rangeland conditions from last week overall dipped down 2 percent rated good to excellent from 65 percent down to 63 according to National Ag Statistic Services. USDA Meterologist Brad Rippey says
Rippey: “Pasture and rangelands rated poor to very poor up two points from 9 to 11 percent.”
No surprise to those in the Pacific Northwest, the nation’s biggest decrease occurred in that region. Rippey continues
Rippey: “Oregon going from 39 percent very poor to poor a week ago going to the current number of 46 percent. Washington state also browning out in a sense of the word going from 28 to 36 percent very poor to poor.”
Not much good news in pastureland conditions in those two states. Idaho saw very poor to poor rating at 13 percent and 53 percent of the state’s pasture and range land is 53 percent good to excellent. Which is best rating of the three states as Oregon’s good to excellent was 15 percent and Washington’s good to excellent was 28 percent.
On a positive note, Colorado’s pasture and rangeland very poor to poor 13 percent, fair was 23 percent and good to excellent 64 percent which is well above the five-year average 32 percent good to excellent.
Rippey adds more about where the best rangeland in country is located
Rippey: “Stretches from Wyoming eastward to the Mid-West and into the Northeast.”
