Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Tiffany Smit with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Smit: “New crop premium alfalfa and Timothy had no confirmed sales this week. Trade was very slow for new crop Alfalfa and Timothy. Most interests this week continued to cut second cutting alfalfa. Demand is good for new crop high testing alfalfa and light to good on other grades. Retail was steady to $30 lower on new crop first cutting alfalfa in a light test. Demand remains good. Alfalfa large squares good quality $170 some sales with rain damage and some without rain damage.”
In Idaho compared to previous week, there were not enough sales for accurate trends. Trade was moderate last week. Producers continue to cut 1st cutting and a few locations have started on 2nd cutting. Demand was light to moderate. Premium/Supreme rated large square alfalfa sold for $210 per ton while good to premium rated large square alfalfa sold for $170 per ton.
In Oregon, prices trended generally steady when compared to the same quality the previous week. Trade activity and demand increased a little this week, however many producers were still busy in the field with the new crop. Few sales of new crop hay. Most producers are still sold out for the season. In Central Oregon large square alfalfa bales rated good sold for $200 per ton. There were no new sales confirmed in Klamath Basin, Eastern Oregon or Harney County.
