Importance of TPA and TPP

Importance of TPA and TPP

The Bipartisan Congressional Trade and Priorities and Accountability Act — better know as Trade Promotion Authority— recently passing the Senate and will hopeful soon be considered in the House.
President Obama recently made a stop in Oregon to promote the importance of trade and the passage of TPA. Oregon Cattlemen’s Association Executive Director Jerome Rosa was there and he shares
Rosa: “The President mentioned that if he were to ever be running again for office he couldn’t take this position, but because he won’t be running for office again he can take a strong position on this. He feels this is the right thing and this will really help trade for our country. Also what it will do is remove some of the tariffs that are causing problems currently and don’t allow us to be on a fair export market with some of the other countries.”
Rosa continues with why the OCA supports both TPA and the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
Rosa: “Well we are very supportive of TPP and TPA. A large portion — about 50 percent — of our meat in the state is exported. So that is a huge, huge market and we feel that is where our growth potential in the future is. So we’ve tried to be very supportive of the President on this and we feel this is an issue he has gotten right and Senator Ron Wyden has been very supportive of.”
