Global Opportunities Are Great for U.S. Ag

We have all heard the forecasted growth in global population for the next 30 years and the dramatic increase in food production that will be needed to meet that population growth. It is an exciting time to be in agriculture, especially in U.S. agriculture. Euromonitor International’s Government and Trade Relation Manager Matt Tripodi says the United States is well positioned for the future global food needs.
Tripodi: “When you look at the population dynamics and the demand for food. When you look at the global industry and how people are trying to figure out, How we are going to feed populations? What are we going to do? Then you look at the United States — production know-how, food safety, high quality — we have a lot to teach the rest of the world about these things so do our partners in Europe and certain places of Latin America and excellent production centers like Australia about how to grow food and how to distribute food and how to merchandise that food and make sure that people are well fed. That is the challenge for this century and the United States should be leading that challenge and that is my contention and the rewards shall be ours.”
As the middle class expands and increases across the globe, especially in Asian countries, they will want the safe, high-quality ag products produced in the United States. Tripodi continues
Tripodi: “When you talk about growth opportunities and where we might be headed and what the opportunity may be for anyone getting involved in that — that type of growth outside of our borders. The new global supermarket — that is what we call it — right now it is a race for shelf space.”
